The Midwifery program 

The Midwifery program at the University of Gitwe is dedicated to preparing students for a vital role in maternal and child health care. Our curriculum is designed to provide a comprehensive understanding of midwifery practices, focusing on both the physiological and psychological aspects of childbirth.

Students in this program will engage in both theoretical coursework and practical experiences, allowing them to develop the essential skills needed for safe and effective midwifery care. Topics covered include prenatal care, labor and delivery, postnatal care, and newborn care, along with an emphasis on community health and support for families during the childbirth process.

We also highlight the importance of evidence-based practice, ethical decision-making, and cultural competence, ensuring that graduates are well-prepared to meet the diverse needs of the populations they serve. Our partnerships with local hospitals and healthcare facilities provide students with hands-on experiences and exposure to real-world scenarios in midwifery.
